Forskning Forskare på KTH har lyckats framställa ett helt biobaserat, genomskinligt trä. I tidigare varianter användes en fossilbaserad polymer i processen, men den är nu ersatt med en polymer som hämtas från citrusfrukter.

Genomskinligt trä låter kanske som en omöjlighet, men forskare på KTH framställde genomskinliga skivor av björk redan för fem år sedan. Nu har de gått vidare och gjort materialet både mer genomskinligt och mer miljövänligt, bland annat genom att byta ut en fossil polymer mot en biobaserad.

– Vi har ersatt den fossilbaserade polymer som vi tidigare använde. Det har varit en av de svårigheter vi har haft, att få till hållbart, transparent trä, säger Lars Berglund, professor på Institutionen för fiber- och polymerteknologi vid KTH.
